A personal profile on how each person responds to conflict, and how to choose a better response

Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict gives every participant a personalized profile of the participant's DiSC® style in conflict: the destructive responses the participant slips into, the productive responses within reach, and practical steps for reframing thoughts in the moment. One assessment per person, returned as a personalized profile.

Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict combines the personalized insights of DiSC® with the proven science of cognitive behavioral theory. The program does not teach a step-by-step process for conflict resolution. Each participant learns personal techniques to curb destructive behaviors, so conflict becomes more productive.

Imagine a colleague questions your numbers in a team meeting. You feel the heat rise, and you hear yourself answer more sharply than you meant to. Your profile describes the automatic thoughts behind the sharp answer, and how to step back and choose a different response the next time.

Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict application tile

Three parts, in order

PART 1

DiSC® in conflict

Participants explore the DiSC® model and how their DiSC® styles shape their responses to conflict, including the priorities and motivators that influence behavior during challenging interactions.

PART 2

Destructive responses

Participants explore the automatic thoughts and triggers that lead to destructive conflict behaviors, and learn to recognize the early signs of a destructive response.

PART 3

Changing your response

Participants learn strategies for reframing destructive behaviors and engaging in more productive responses.

An introduction to Productive Conflict: how people can recognize destructive reactions and turn disagreement into better outcomes.

WHY ORGANIZATIONS CHOOSE IT

Conflict is inevitable; destructive conflict is not

Organizations choose Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict for a business reason: destructive conflict costs money. People avoid one another, decisions are delayed, good ideas go unspoken, and capable people leave.

Imagine two senior colleagues disagree about a project plan. The first colleague argues every point in the meeting. The second colleague agrees in the room and then stops replying to emails. Each colleague's profile describes the destructive responses the colleague's DiSC® style tends toward, and the productive responses the colleague can choose instead.

The profile helps participants turn destructive conflict behavior into productive responses, so more of the organization's time and energy goes into the outcomes the organization is measured on: productivity, retention and, in the end, profitability.

DiSC® AND CONFLICT

Each person starts with a DiSC® style in conflict, then learns to choose a different response

The Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict Map shows the four DiSC® styles, D, i, S and C, with eight words around the circle. The profile shows each participant how the participant's own DiSC® style shapes the response to conflict, and how other styles respond.

ControlAssertionExpressionReassuranceHarmonyStabilityObjectivityJustification

The profile then follows one conflict from the first thought to the response, because the response is the part each person can change.

Try it: how a conflict goes wrong, and how a person changes the response

THE CONFLICT

A colleague pushes back

A colleague challenges your proposal in front of the team.

AUTOMATIC THOUGHT

A thought arrives first

If they push me, I’ll push back harder.

NO PAUSE

The thought drives the behavior

The automatic thought and the emotion around the thought push the person toward a knee-jerk response.

DESTRUCTIVE RESPONSE

Arguing

The exchange centers more on winning than on finding the best solution.

FIRST STEP BACK, THEN REFRAME

A different thought

Maybe they don’t realize how aggressively they’re coming across.

PRODUCTIVE RESPONSE

A chosen response

The person is back in control and chooses a productive response, such as listening or determining the root of the problem.

Destructive responses the profile covers

Three questions for reframing. Is this thought actually valid? Am I overreacting or exaggerating the problem? Is there another way I could look at the situation?
